Game | Diver Dave

Games, Fun is the Most Important Thing#

At the end of September, I went crazy and played for 26 hours in three days, giving myself a little vacation and completing the game Diver Dave. It's been a long time since I had so much fun playing a game. During those three days, I would wake up early to go fishing and joke to myself, "There are fishers in Baoshan..." and "Now I know what I look like at forty"...

You can play it as a simulation management game: running a sushi restaurant, farming, and raising fish. You can also experience the ocean scenery through the storyline. It all depends on you.

As the story progresses, you will enter new areas, encounter new fish, have new friends join your team, and after defeating the boss, toast and enjoy the fruits of your labor together.

In writing this part, what I want to express the most is how wonderful it is to have such a big team. It's like being part of a family with humanistic feelings (starting to get emotional, haha).

  • Dave: He's an otaku who provides us with weapons. When forging weapons, the scenes are all elements from the otaku world. He's a pure otaku who comes to the party as a virtual image.

  • Banqiao: The head chef of our restaurant! From working in a big hotel to our small restaurant, he urges me to go fishing and restock every day...

  • Fanghui: The HR manager of our restaurant. Our restaurant's development relies on her management. She's like a headteacher.

  • Otto and his son: One drifted here, the other raps. They farm, raise fish, and chickens here... It may seem unreasonable, but that's how it is!

  • Dave: A laborer, also the protagonist. During the day, he not only goes fishing but also checks the fields for weeds and the condition of the fish fry. If some fish appear at night, he has to go to that spot to catch them. He's truly squeezing himself as a laborer.

  • And other members...

Catching fish, growing vegetables, and selling sushi at night, everything is in perfect order, making perfectionists with OCD ecstatic. After closing, sleep and wake up to another day full of energy. Even though real life is not always like this, you can experience it in the game.

Living like this on September 10th and 7th, after a while, we can collect fish and vegetables, skip the daytime, and come to the night to sell sushi, entering a retired and laid-back life. No one can stop me!

The entire game process is not long. If you only focus on the storyline, it may end in a dozen hours. After finishing the story, it becomes a simulation management or collectible game, but it's not done well. You may feel a lack of motivation to continue playing, and the feedback mechanism is not as strong as before (seeing new fish, meeting new companions). That's why my game time stagnated...

The game's progression relies on the connection between Dave and the merfolk. Actually, I don't think this part is well-written. It feels a bit abrupt, and there are also so-called environmentalists causing trouble during the middle part. It's not well connected. After praising the game mode earlier for being simple and fun, the storyline is poorly done... It even feels like an unfinished product, without properly polishing the entire game process...

But I'm still willing to recommend it, even with the flaws in the storyline and the lack of AAA-level graphics. Throughout the game, there are no deliberately set levels. Instead, it tries to let you experience. If you don't want to collect materials, you can fish using primitive methods. The boss battles are like a dance for two, allowing you to experience rather than struggle. If you don't want to progress the story, you can live a life of fishing. If you find fishing too tiring, you can skip that day and rest. If you find serving dishes too tiring, leave it to others and just wait to collect money (being a heartless boss is not recommended).

I think every game will have its flaws and personal preferences, which is why there is the concept of niche games. As long as a game brings you happiness, it's enough. You can play it according to your own wishes and find your own happiness.

Similarly, each indie game may not be intended to cater to everyone or strive to become a bestseller. Unlike Tencent and NetEase, big companies that provide timely feedback and induce you to go online every day... I really like the ending menu, where you fight monsters in space, and after each creator's name is broken, it's their own virtual image, completing the joy of their own work!

Finally, you are the player, experiencing the joy of the game...

Am I an "I" Person?#

INFP

When talking with new friends about our respective MBTI types, I said that I'm actually an "E" person, even though I may seem like an "I" person. I've taken the test several times this year, and it's been a mix of "I" and "E". The boundaries aren't clear. My old friends used to think I was an "E" person, and they even called me a social cow...

Taking advantage of the time before the Mid-Autumn Festival, while still a student, I went to visit my middle school teachers:

  • My homeroom teacher, we chatted for about ten minutes. He hasn't changed during class, still full of excitement, but after class, he's like "See you, I'm going to pick up my son, it's time to get off work"...
  • I talked with my math teacher for almost an hour. I was her third batch of students, and I shared some changes in my life. She also marveled at the changes in my personality and jokingly said I should start considering my own affairs...
  • My Chinese teacher, who retired and returned to teaching, wished me to have hair in the future...
  • Most of the other teachers have been transferred.

Actually, I'm not very attached to home. During this period of time, I want to become more three-dimensional... But I also understand that family and friends still need to be in regular contact. Our parents are gradually getting older, and after all, we see the world on their shoulders.

Happy National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, my friends.
